Jumeirah Charity Giant Cake Sale
'In Support of Dubai Autism Centre'
Dubai, 8 July 2008: For the 5th consecutive year Jumeirah Group is teaming up with Mercato for the annual DSS event known as the Jumeirah Giant Cake Sale, in support of Dubai Autism Centre.
More than 60 Executive Pastry Chefs from Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts have teamed up to prepare an exquisite display of 3,065 mouthwatering cakes, to celebrate DSS sweet surprises. This number of cakes represents the total number of rooms provided by Jumeirah Group’s Dubai Hotels & Resorts.
The Jumeirah Giant Charity Cake Sale will take place on July 11th from 6.00pm – 10.00pm at Mercato . The evening will feature a variety of scrumptious cakes consisting of many flavours, designs and sizes, with choices to satisfy everyone’s taste. Each cake will be sold for Dhs 30 and all proceeds will be donated to Dubai Autism Centre.

July 11th will see Jumeirah hold, for the fifth year running, the Giant Cake Sale at Mercato. We are very proud to once again hold this annual event at Mercato and it is one of the events that I personally look forward to each year, as it is for a great cause and also a lot of fun for our colleagues to take part in as well as for the general public.

About Dubai Autism Center
Our mission is to successfully integrate children with Autism into the community through our holistic approach to intervention and therapies together with our focused efforts to create social awareness about Autism.
The Dubai Autism Centre (DAC) is a non-profit organization providing information, support, advice and training to professionals and parents of children with Autism; founded in November 2001 with the issuance of a decree from H.H. Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. DAC is focused on providing various services for children with Autism and their families. The Centre also works toward facilitating a better community understanding of Autism, including early Diagnosis and treatment methodology.
In January 2003, the Centre started up a school in a villa in Jumeira, with 16 students. Today the school is located in a large villa in Al Diyafa Road and houses 43 students, aged 4 - 18 years. Each class has four students and two teachers, of whom one is Arabic-speaking. The school provides not only conventional academic tuition, but also speech-, occupational, music, art, and computer literacy therapies. A team of clinical psychologists and therapists provides full assessment and diagnosis.
Currently the school is functioning at full capacity including 22 teachers, 10
Therapists and 10 staff in management, who are supporting 43 students with a waiting list of approx 86 students. DAC is fundraising for a larger premises and increased teaching staff to meet the growing demand for specialist care.
